Naked Pizza just opened in Pacific Beach and their delivery area spans to La Jolla. By encouraging all to “Live Naked,” Naked Pizza is revolutionizing the traditional pizza mentality by promoting whole food sources rich in fiber and free of additives, preservatives and chemicals. Here is some of the health information as taken from the Naked Pizza website.
Digestive Health: our special prebiotic dough mix of more than 10 seeds and grains, fortified with probiotics, promotes digestive health and balance by stimulating the normal, beneficial bacteria in the digestive tract.
Bone Health: The special prebiotic fiber (inulin) in our dough mix is clinically proven to boost calcium absorption and therefore important to building and maintaining strong bones.
Weight Management: Dietary fiber, like the prebiotic fiber and fiber from the multiple seeds and grains in our dough mix, can be useful in a weight management program because it may help maintain a feeling of fullness for longer periods after eating.
Glycemic Response: Prebiotics, probiotics and our multi-grain dough mix is suitable for use in a diabetic diet due to the reduced glycemic response.
I’m sure you’re thinking, “Yes, but does it taste good?” and that is a fair question. Here’s how it played out for me. I called Naked Pizza, ordered (though you can order online) and the pizza was at my house in less than 20 minutes. I wouldn’t expect this kind of unbelievable service all of the time, as it was almost too good to be true. However, I had a hungry kid on my hands. The pizza (Omnivore with no hamburger) was fresh, noticeably not greasy, and still warm from the oven. If you like drippy, greasy pizza, this might not be for you. But if you like to eat pizza and wish you had a healthier option, you’re in luck. The pizza was delicious and most importantly, my 3 year old loved it.
We also ordered a spinach salad which appeared to be the only salad option on the menu. My criticism is that I wish there were other salad choices. As far as I’m concerned, the more delivery options we have, the better. Try Naked Pizza and let me know what you think.
