Watches from 2011 Baselworld Trade Show in Switzerland
CJ Charles Jewelers is one of the best and most recognized jewelery stores in San Diego and Southern California. In part of their pursuit of continued excellence they travel the world to secure the most unique and quality watches and timepieces for their collection from the worlds leading manufacturers. Below is information on the recent addition of watches from the Baselworld Show in Switzerland and the current fashions and trends for 2011.
BASELWORLD, the world’s leading international watch and jewelry show held annually in Basel, Switzerland took place from March 24 – 31, offering exhibitors an opportunity to present pieces of the future. Still under the influence of the recent economic crisis, the trend is towards nostalgia of the past, far from unconventional designs associated with the early 21st century.
While brands have drawn inspiration from the past, they have certainly not ignored state-of-the-art techniques perfected over the past years. The intelligent combination of retro and contemporary possesses all the qualities of neoclassicism. Whom does it better, none other than Breguet. Fusing together the influence of Abraham-Louis Breguet’s timeless pieces from the 18th century and modern horological advancements, Breguet presented a revolutionary new model at Baselworld, the Classique Hora Mundi. It is the first mechanical watch with an instant time-zone display and a memory featuring synchronized date, day/night and city indications. This function lets the client preselect from among the cities listed within the 24 time zones, two cities for which he or she wishes to display. In the haute horlogerie sector, the emphasis is on technical and prestigious complications. Needing three years to meticulously design, develop and perfect this complication watch, Breguet holds true to the best of haute horlogerie.
As far as materials seen at Baselworld, titanium, ceramic, and carbon fiber are no longer considered exclusive and have given rise to timepieces that are distinctly contrary. A perfect example being Omega’s Sea Master Planet Ocean Liquidmetal® Limited Edition featuring a titanium case and a blue ceramic bezel with scaling and numbers made of an alloy called Liquidmetal®. Its hardness is three times as great as that of stainless steel. Last year Omega became the first watchmaker ever to blend ceramic and Liquidmetal®. Among the many brands using ceramics, Bulgari has introduced the Octo Chronographe Quadri-Retro, from the Gérald Genta collection. Redesigned from the 2009 model, this latest model is crafted in an octagonal stainless steel case equipped with a ceramic bezel. The matte-black bezel not only provides incomparable scratch-resistance, but also serves as a beautiful complement to the art-deco-inspired dial.
A new daring design adding attention to the movements, the heart of the watch, shifts its focus to both men and women. An example expressing this exceptional design is the Omega’s Ladymatic. It conveys a bold fashion statement, but its movement is every bit as important as its elegance. Omega’s mindset was in aiming to create a watch for the modern woman that integrated the brand’s newest technology with a feminine, eye-pleasing design. The Ladymatic strikingly exceeded the par.
Another trend seen among brands is an uprising of in-house movements. Implemented with their new in-house Caliber 04 movement, an upgrade from the Caliber 01 movement, The Chronomat GMT from Breitling meets every traveler’s wish. Combining an extremely practical dual time zone system with a chronograph, Breitling allows a frequent traveler to instantly know the time and date of his place of arrival as well as the time at home, over a 24-hour period and to the exact minute.
Vahid Moradi, President and CEO of CJ Charles, possesses a love and passion for the world of horlogerie while offering the “crème de la crème” of timepieces, including all brands mentioned, to the loyal clients of CJ Charles.
